Saint Joseph is a Symbol and Patron of people who earn their livelihood by their own work. He combined his professional work with caring for the Holy Family, whom God Had Entrusted to His Care. Pope John Paul II repeatedly invoked Saint Joseph when speaking about the importance of work in human life. “In a sense, it can be said that through work a person becomes more human. Therefore, diligence is a virtue. However, in order for industriousness to enable man to truly become more human, it should always be included in the social dimension of work. Only on this condition is the inalienable dignity of the person preserved, as well as the social value of human activity.” (Saint John Paul II May 1, 2002)
The choice of the image and then the representation in wood has a deep symbolic meaning. It is a carved version of the traditional, world-famous image of Saint Joseph the Worker, with a working tool and a lily in his hands. The sculpture in its simplicity refers to the Simplicity and Modesty of Saint Joseph, as well as his Diligence and Purity. During the work, I focused on the details of this image, wanting to render them all with reliability and care, in order to glorify God in the Form of This Great Saint.
